New Research Show Positive Thinking Strengthens Immune System
Most people get grumpy when they’re sick. But the question is, do they get grumpy because they’re sick; or do they get sick because they’re grumpy? Science has now proven that it very well could be the latter.
In a study recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers at the University of Wisconsin proved that people who practice positive thinking are better equipped to fight disease. (click here to see an abstract of the report)
In the study, a team of neuroscientists recruited a group of men and women between the ages of 57 and 60. They used electroencephalography to measure brain activity and then gave all the subjects flu shots. They then measured the level of flu antibodies in their blood over time to see how well their bodies were prepared to fight the disease.
What they found is that positive thinking individuals had a significantly stronger immune response than those who exhibited more a negative style. The author says this “begins to suggest a mechanism for why subjects with a more positive emotional state may be healthier.”
So what does this mean for you? Well, it means you need to keep control of your thoughts and feelings and program your mind to remain positive at all times. Not only can you stay healthier, but you will be more successful in everything you do.
How do you do this? Well, previous research has shown that meditation increases activity in the left prefrontal cortex; the same area of the brain those scientists associate with positive thinking. Perhaps this is why people who use our tapes and CDs consistently report enjoying greater happiness and better health.
